U2 begin recording Achtung Baby in Germany

30 Oct 1990
U2 began recording Achtung Baby in Berlin's Hansa Studios in October 1990. The studio where David Bowie and Iggy Pop had recorded previously.

The sessions were fraught, as the band argued over their musical direction and the quality of their material. After weeks of difficulty, the band made a breakthrough with the improvised writing of the song that eventually became, 'One'.
