'In a parked car, in a crowded street...'

Something sound familiar in the newly released trailer for Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby, coming later in the year.

The trailer opens with Jay-Z and Kanye's 'No Church In The Wild' playing in the background but a minute in and we're listening to a blistering vocal from Jack White...  performing Love Is Blindness.

 Take a look.

Jack and Edge worked together with Jimmy Page on the documentary film  It Might Get Loud. U2 wrote Love Is Blindness  for Achtung Baby in 1991 and Edge performed the song solo during the making of From The Sky Down last year.  Jack's version first came to light on 'AHK-toong BAY-bi Covered' last year.

Two special performances. One fine song.

The Greatest
Wasn't too keen on the idea of Gatsby but trust Baz to pull something like Jack White doing Love is Blindness out of the bag. I'd already heard it from the UK disc of U2 covers (was it with Qmag?) Anyway, I love it and having seen Edge, Jimmy and Jack working together on It Might Get Loud makes that version even more special

It's Blindness
U2 must play this song again with the awesome guitar solo, One of the greatest U2 songs ever. Jack White is alright but the original is the best.

I meant amazing *song*, not "son"...
Oops. I must have been so excited when I heard/saw the trailer, I'd forgotten to check everything before pressing "submit"! I bet the *songs* might feel a little like *sons* when you see others cover them like this, a sort of 'baby all grown up', and dating now even, lol. I hope it feels good to see the songs so powerful and well-raised that they can be alternately interpreted so interestingly!

Wondering who
I was wondering who was singing that! Was in the movie theater singing along with it to my husband....Liked the version. Good tribute to U2. It's a different stamp on it, but felt true to the song. I'd buy it.

A great book, an even greater song ...
I'm currently studying Fitzgerald's 'The Great Gatsby' in my English Literature course and am sitting an exam on it in a few weeks! When I heard the film was being released in December I was over the moon but was even more excited having watched the trailer to hear a very familiar song in the background ... 'Love Is Blindness' from my all-time favourite album, Achtung Baby! Excited! Great song!

I'm looking forward...
to the movie. DiCaprio is a very good actor & think his getting better and better. And I love the song Love is Blindness....but as everybody else says...,even if J White is doing a good job singing it,....I love it better when U2 do it...!

Fantastic, great use of this amazing son
Wow, what a great idea, this song works so very very well for what I'm expecting from a Baz Luhrmann Gatsby, oh.my.god! I still love U2's version above the rest... but White's take on it has the requisite manic breakout of energy for this application, conveys the bubbling unhappy ending erupting from underneath. The "restlessness" spoken about in the trailer's voice-over is more raw than in U2's version. The pain of the self-deception is sharper-feeling in White's version, which I think is great to go with Gatsby!

White Blindness
Saw the trailer. Heard the tune. Did not know it was Jack White. Glad it is Jack!

Blindness
Well I think that the original Love is Blindness is a lot better than J.Page's because the original song sounds more serious and much more dramatic.
AchtungRachelBaby
That almost makes sense...
Except U2's version would have been MUCH better as ALWAYS!

Baby, a dangerous idea...
Yeap, I just saw the trailer yesterday in Facebook and I said I'll just go to check the movie because there is an incredible song there. Pity, I still vote for the real one, yours!
