Where You Live Should Not Decide....

U2 fans have helped deliver fourteen wells in Africa, providing water for up to 20,000 people.

The African Well Fund was set up by some enterprising U2 fans in 2002 a creative way of celebrating Bono's birthday.

Question: What do you give the man who has everything ?
Answer: Something useful for people who don't have everything.

A registered non-profit organization, AWF has held two successful fundraising campaigns to 'Build a Well for Bono's Birthday' and has now raised over $50,000. The recent "Swinging to the Music" parties to celebrate the launch of 'How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb' (hosted by fan site atU2.com) raised another hefty sum for the Fund.

Organisers believe that access to safe consumable water is a basic human right.
"The African Well Fund believes that access to safe, consumable water is not merely a basic human need, but a basic human right. Our goal is to raise money for the construction and maintenance of clean water wells in Sub Saharan Africa."

Donations to the Fund are used by AWF's partner Africare for clean water projects in Africa - Africare is one of the leading charitable U.S. organizations assisting Africa.

In the past year alone funds raised by these enterprising fans topped $30,000 and will deliver projects estimated to impact nearly 13,000 people.
