Zoo TV Auckland 4 December 1993
Awe inspiring event - so much has been written about this tour world-wide, that there is almost so little to add. Some local microphone testors opened (sorry, can't remember who), followed by tour openers B.A.D. (Big Audio Dynamite) - they were great but too much early Southern Hemisphere summer evening light spoilt any light show they may have had. Once U2 hit the stage, ZOO TV became something sublimely surreal for 55,000 transfixed and transformed televison addicts. Unbelievable through to Bono's last Preslyfied notes. No calling foreign presidents or taxi companies for McPhisto this time. He got all the spotlights to turn 180 degrees to the house with a Scotsmans grand stand on its roof up, high on top of the clifftops overlooking Western Springs stadium, then called the guy living in the house and asked if he could buy a ticket to watch the show... the guy just had no idea what to think, say or do! Let's just say, it brought the house down. A totally magic night for many an Aucklander. Thanks for the memories -
