U2:UV Achtung Baby Live At Sphere #19

Another Beautiful Night

Show nineteen at 'the sssspherical object that is the Sphere' and with Depeche Mode in the house,  'your own … personal … Jesus'.

Songs from Rattle and Hum were back in the set tonight and 'Personal Jesus'  showed up in between 'When Love Comes to Town' and 'Love Rescue Me',

Also dropped  through the 22-song set  were familiar scenes from  Van Morrison's 'Into the Mystic', The Rolling Stones' 'Paint It Black', and The Beatles' 'Blackbird'.

What Did Bono Say

The band returned from the three-week hiatus with some new gear, including the front door of the childhood home of Ali Stewart, the doorbell of which Bono rang, waiting in vain for an answer, as he held tight to the digital balloon floating high in the Sphere roof during 'Trying To Throw Your Arms Around the World'.

An imagined conversation with his mother-in-law, Joy Stewart, who is here tonight: 'Joy! Hey Joy! I'm bringing your daughter home a little balloon. I got a little distracted.'  'Hey Edge? I lost me keys. Do you know where they are? …. Uh …. She won't open the door.'

As the song draws to an end: 'That was for Joy and Ali'. And then: 'Do you do panto here? You're missing out if you don't….You do bingo!'

Between 'All I Want Is You' and 'Desire': 'I think it's clear that Adam and Bram have something going on….(To Adam) Look at this man, even his street wear looks posh. … I'd like to introduce you to our very own Greek god — no, Roman god — putting the Venus in the Venetian: Adam Clayton, Lord Adam Clayton.…On my right, our scientist — and we are clearly his experiment — our very own WMD, weapon of mass devotion, The Edge!'

Before launching into 'Beautiful Day': 'This is truly a beautiful…day. You see, just hanging out in a place like this you get show business. See what I did there? Be careful. “A Beautiful Night” would be proper show business.”

Shout Outs:

To Martin Gore of Depeche Mode, in the house tonight.

'To those of you from (RED) and ONE, for giving other people great lives, too, thank you Gayle (Smith, CEO of the ONE Campaign), and Tom (Hart, outgoing president of ONE) also here.

To Jimmy Iovine, who produced Rattle and Hum, during 'Desire'.

What a ride
I managed to avoid watching YouTube videos or even see a set list prior to the show, which was no small feat for me. Phenomenal show and lived up to every bit of my expectations and more. My friend asks “how was it?“ and I reply it was “even better than the real thing“. Took me back to when I saw them on the Zoo TV tour at RFK Stadium in 1992. I arrived in my customized Macphisto jean jacket. Tom Morello was at the show and so when Bono referred to “Tom” I thought it might be him. Also saw actor Thomas Lennon in section 107. My favorite band celebrating my favorite album, there’s nothing better.

Finally after 5 months waiting for the show, we made it. First time for my sister and brother in law but my 6th time since 1997 and my wife 3rd time. Priceless moments in the Sphere.

best show in the world
With 50 dollars in hand 30 years ago I saw the ZOO TV tour and it blew my mind at 17 years old, in the Las Vegas sphere I tell my 19-year-old daughter are you ready to see the best show in the world... He looks at me and says I doubt it, we left the concert and I told him whether or not it is the best show in the world... it is the best thing I have ever seen in my life father.

Full Circle of Life Moment with U2
The night of December 2, 2023 was one of the most unforgettable nights of my life. It was a full-on U2 fan circle of life moment. You see, I watched my first ever U2 concert back in 2009 at Veltins-Arena in Germany. I was pregnant with my baby girl. It was a dream come true for me! Fast forward to 2023 (14 years later!), I took my now-13 year old to her first ever U2 concert at Sphere in Las Vegas, and made a U2 fan out of her! Haha. We’re both at the same height now, but most importantly, huge u2 fans! So, thank you, u2, Sphere, and Veltins-Arena, for being part of our family!

A whirlwind 3 day trip to Vegas to see U2 at the Sphere. What a journey, what a venue and what a whatba show. December 1st will live with me forever. Thanks for the photo Bono!

12/2 39 years to the DAY
I saw U2 for the first time Dec 2, 1984 at the Centrum in Worcester, MA and became a dedicated, lifelong super fan that night. By luck of the lottery draw… I saw my favorite band *exactly* 39 years later to the day at the Sphere (my fifth time seeing them live). Epic is the single word to describe it. Everything I hoped for and so much more! My friend and I flew 12 hours from our home on St Croix, US Virgin Islands to see them. And I’d do it again and again if I could. The night was thrilling. The sound perfection. The show phenomenal. It defies description. Thank you U2 for providing the soundtrack to my life and my playlist for driving and singing my way through Ireland.

Concert 2/2
Another perfect evening! Happy to have seen 2 shows, as this second evening I was able to see more as I was less overwhelmed than yesterday. Again goosebumps with One, my favorite.
