My 1st U2 concert - July 4, 1987
This was a hot summer day in Paris. The concert took place at the Vincennes Hippodrome in the Paris East suburb. I was 23 year old at that time. I became a fan of the band a few months earlier when I heard the Joshua Tree album for the first time. I have been a fan since then and will until I die !
On July 4th we had to arrive very early at the Hippodrome in order to make sure we can see the stage. Unfortunately, at 5:00 pm or so when the gates opened we were already far from the stage and had to wait hours until the show began but we were really excited. The supporting act was the Irish group the Pogues (don't know if anyone still know who I'm talking about). Their performance was not so great but the heat was increasing in the crowd - ready to welcome our favorite band. When they finally arrived, the sunset was behind the stage and I felt like in a dream. The first song they played was Exodus from Bob Marley and I must say Bono gave a wonderful version of this great song. He had his black hat and black jacket that he used to wear at that time. He was looking great !
I don't remember all the set list but they played most of the Joshua tree songs and this concert remains in my memory until then as this was my first U2 concert. Sorry if my English is not perfect but I'm French. Thanks for giving us the opportunity to be part of U2 History. Dom - from France
