U2:UV Achtung Baby Live At Sphere #28

'Takes A Second to Say Goodbye'

Last night the band fired up their neon turntable and dropped the needle on the War album, spinning through wah-wah-pedal-and-funky-bass-with-some-stank-on-it-fueled renditions of 'Two Hearts Beat As One' and 'Seconds'.

This 28th show at the Sphere also included a snippet of Lou Reed's 'Take a Walk On The Wild Side' and a few verses of 'Rock The Casbah' by the Clash, prompted by Bono's confession: 'The only thing you need to know about me is that when I grew up, I was hoping … that I would become Joe Strummer'.

Crowded House's 'Don't Dream It's Over' remained in the set as liberation remained on the mind: 'Don't let anyone take your freedoms away is all we have to say, in the spirit of the Clash. And here's a pop song that says it better than all of us'.

If you were at the show in Vegas, add your own review and upload your photos below.

What Bono Said

Before Mysterious Ways: 'Look around you, look around you, and let me say, impertinently, that all this sublime artistry and technology doesn't matter a damn unless it makes us feel close together, close to the music. 'Are you feeling close together? Are you feeling close to our band? We are feeling close'.

'If I'm a fool for you — and your moustache —then I'm something'. (To Adam, during 'Two Hearts Beat As One'.)

To Edge between 'Two Hearts' and 'Seconds': 'Is that a goatee?'  'It is a goatee. The man to go to for anything you want in your life, any sound you want. He might disappear for a few days, but he will find you that sound … and I don't know if I can say this … for a white, dare I say it Irish/Welshman, you are some funky motherfucker. The Edge! Come on!'

Shout Outs

During 'Trying To Throw Your Arms Around The World (while looking for his keys) to producer and musician Sean Garrett.

During 'Where The Streets Have No Name' to John Gerrard, the Irish artist whose generative artwork — the white vapor flag 'Surrender' — appears during the song

'今回の旅の目的は話題のSphereでU2を観ることで、計3回観れたけど、今夜の立ち見が近すぎてもうたまらんの二乗。やっと天井まで全景見れて感無量だし、バンドがホントに近いしで最の高 of 最の高ライブ”体験”としてはこれ以上のものが出てくるのは考えづらいくらい。(English Translation: The purpose of this trip was to see U2 at the popular Sphere, and I was able to see them three times in total, but tonight's standing room was so close that I couldn't resist. I was overwhelmed with emotion as I was finally able to see the entire view all the way to the ceiling, and the band was so close to me that it's hard to imagine a better live experience.'  —@jahappyrock on X

Bono stopped the show to help someone
Beautiful show. Seconds has always been one of my favs. The bass groove and the fact that the Edge sings the first part. More importantly the song is about nuclear war. So glad that U2 is still warning us about the dangers. Bono slowed the show to help someone during the song All I Want is You. He successfully got help for that person. It just goes to say that the band cares more about people than having a perfect show.

Literally no words
I'm 17 and last night was my first U2 concert ever and I literally have no words to describe it. My dad and I were right on the railing. It was everything I hoped for and more. Bono's voice sounded incredible! Time travel back to ZooTV is sadly impossible, but I feel like I got a bit closer last night. Thank you U2, and thank you The Fly.
