'Africa Rising, Angelique Kidjo'

9 Mar 201014
Time magazine calls Angelique Kidjo 'Africa's premier diva' and on her new album OYO, one of the stand-out tracks is a collaboration with Bono and John Legend - not forgetting the horns of Antibalas - for Curtis Mayfield's 'Move On Up'.

You can hear it when you land on Angelique's site.

As the Sunday Times in the UK puts it, 'The Beninese singer's celebration of her musical roots turns out to be a magnificently upbeat marriage of African tradition and western pop.'

Palace To Pavement
A great and interesting read, the last time I read one of your articles I was going to be beamed up. Offices, boardrooms and bars is where the redefining the rule of the game starts. Luminous personalities I like that, can start a landslide in my ego or can it. Real leadership can be accomplished no matter the odds. "What can I say, once again will you dance with me" it will only take a second :) thanks for posting..

Well, I would expect as much...
Angelique Kidjo continues to put out wonderful album after wonderful album. This is just her latest collaboration, last time she had Joss Stone sit in for her cover of the Stone's "GImmie Shelter". Peter Gabriel and Santana were also guests on that album. Earlier, her cover of Hendrix's "Voodoo Chile" got her noticed enough to get an invite to the YEAR OF THE BLUES celebration and into the film LIGHTNING IN A BOTTLE. Her work with Dave Matthews is also fantastic.

The Answer To My PRAYERS!
I have been a U2 fan for more than a quarter century and I have seen Angelique 4 times in concert. I have been WAITING for her to colab with Bono! I am so excited!! She is awesome -- I don't know if it's just because of the song, or because God answered this prayer! I love it when that happens! :-) It's Adam's birthday and I got the gift. If anyone has the opportunity to see her live go. You will have a memorable evening. Her album Black Ivory Soul is my favorite! Her live performance of Afrika is so moving -- uplifting and joyful!

Angelique in Dublin
For your information, Angélique Kidjo is performing in Dublin at the National Concert Hall on May 1st in a special benefit concert for UNICEF Ireland’s Haiti Appeal. There is simply no musician quite like her. One of the true stars of world music, ‘Africa’s premier diva’ (Time Magazine) has spread her rhythmic Afro-fusion to the far reaches of the globe, cross-pollinating the West African traditions of her childhood in Benin with elements of R&B, jazz, and funk, as well as influences from Europe and Latin America. This Grammy Award winning singer crosses musical boundaries and, in doing so, seeks to unite different world cultures through her music. Angélique Kidjo is also a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and has delivered countless speeches on the issues children and women face in her native land and elsewhere. All profits from this concert, Angélique Kidjo’s first in Ireland, will be donated to UNICEF Ireland and its ongoing work in Haiti.
