What Bono, Edge and Danny Lanois said in accepting last night's Grammy Awards.
When Edge accepted the Song of the Year Award for Beautiful Day from Shelby Lynn and Sheryl Crow, this is what he had to say:
"Wow. Well on a personal level this century has been going so well forus, we finished our album, I had a little baby boy a little while ago, the whole Jubilee 2000 work has been incredible, just everything has been going great. There's also been some great breakthroughs in science, the disposible mobile phone, 3 blade razor and the female orgasmatron which is great - anyway now this... thanks everybody our record company has been great, our management have been great and our producer's amazing."
Later Bono stepped forward to accept the Record Of The Year Award from Carlos Santana and Joni Mitchell. This is what he had to say.
'I think Macy Gray really should have some of this, a lot of people here should have some of this. Didn't expect to win this award - it's a very usual emotion I'm feeling right now, I think it's called humility. ' The whole year has been humbling going back to scratch, applying for the job, what job? The Best Band in the World job, a lot of people here tonight are up for that job, Radiohead, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and I have to say I'm in the Destiny's Child fanclub, but tonight is our night. Danny Lanois our producer."
Then Dany Lanois stepped up to the microphone: "Just like to say Brian Eno could not be here tonight, my co-producer and my compadre, thanks Brian and to Steve Lillywhite, Richard Rainey, Tim Palmer for being in the trenches with us for so long."
And Edge added another comment: "There were a few things I forgot to say earlier... we got planning on the house...."
