Bono in Switzerland for World Economic Forum

25 Jan 2001
Bono is to speak at this week's meeting of the World Economic Forum, an annual convention of business and political leaders in the Swiss mountains.

More than 30 heads of state and government will gather in the Swiss ski resort for the conference, including business leaders such as Microsoft's Bill Gates and Nissan's Carlos Ghosn.

Bono will speak on the ongoing efforts to cancel developing country debt. A session entitled, 'Debt Relief: Is It Just About Cancelling the Bill ?' will ask why, despite promises, debt cancellation is taking so long to be realised.

The Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum brings together business and political leaders with academics, media leaders and representatives from civil society. The WEF estimates that 36 representatives of Non-Governmental Organisations will be present with 200 writers, artists and academics lending their voice to the debate.
