Elevation Is About The Songs

23 Mar 2001
Just a couple of days ahead of the tour, Bono and Edge are emphasising that this tour is about the music.... more than anything else.

'The subject matter of both our last tours included the idea of spectacle itself in them,' Bono told Launch.com. 'It was a thrill borrowing George Clinton's Mothership for PopMart and having a 40-foot mirror ball lemon used to transport stars in the year 1998 or whatever it was... it was great fun to do all of that, but this one's about the songs.'

This was a theme underlined by Edge in another interview shortly before the band left Dublin for Miami.

"It will be a music-centric show," said Edge. "There's no big concept. While we may utilize some of the things we've learned over the last 10 years of playing these big Zoo TV and Popmart shows in our current show, I think it's about the music."

Edge said it's primarily because the new music is better suited to the indoors that Elevation 2001 is mainly staying inside.

"I suppose we feel we're in a position to really play some amazing shows," he added. "I don't think we would have wanted to leave here at all if we didn't feel we had a crack at being the best show out there at the moment."
