Icons Coming Up

19 May 2008
Remember Edge's 'U2' rings from the cover of 'Achtung Baby' ? And Bono's Gretsch Falcon Guitar from the Vertigo tour ? They're among the rather dazzling collection of rock'n'roll memorabilia that will go under the hammer in New York at the end of the month to raise funds for communities affected by Hurricane Katrina.

A very fine illustrated catalogue (pictured) features all 408 lots in the Music Rising's "Icons of Music" Sale, set for on Saturday, May 31st, 2008 at The Hard Rock Cafe in Times Square. Edge will even be doing some of the auctioneering.

As well as contributions from the band, you can also bid for the Gibson guitar used by Slash for his first public appearance with Velvet Revolver , a handwritten poem by Jim Morrison, a Bob Dylan concert used guitar and handwritten lyrics by Ronnie Wood. There's a set of four early Beatles suits worn by during their promotion of Hard Day's Night, a Green Day custom made prototype Gibson used by Billie Joe, a Miles Davis owned and used trumpet and an original hand drawn self portrait by Patti Smith.

Music Rising was launched by Edge and others in a bid to rescue the musical culture of the Central Gulf region of the United States from the destruction caused by the catastrophic hurricanes of the summer of 2005 by replacing the musical instruments lost or destroyed in the deluge.
