'If You Go Your Way..'

27 Nov 201436
'Every breaking wave on the shore
Tells the next one there’ll be one more
And every gambler knows that to lose
Is what you’re really there for...'

Through October and November, the band were touring radio and TV studios in Europe, performing stripped back versions of songs from the new album.

None went down better than Every Breaking Wave, accompanied by a string quintet. This is what it was like in Glasgow  at the MTV European Music Awards.

(The band were also at the MTV Awards in 2009, in Berlin, performing with Jay-Z (special to subscribers) and back in 2001, in New York, when they paid tribute to The Ramones.)

Stunning.
If you are not moved by this, there is something wrong with you. I saw them in LA and they did an acoustic version, also beautiful, but the strings, Bono's voice and passion and emotion (and the rest of U2!!) leave me speechless on this version.

A fantastic stripped Down version, but I have to say the climax with Larry and Adam gave me the chills. Larry's drumming is so unique!

OH MY GOD!!!! A U2 fan for over 30 yrs remembers why he fell in love with this band. Don't change a thing about the song or the arrangement. I would give the world to have been there to hear it live! Please do it on the tour!!! Exactly the same!!!!

I was lucky enough.....
to be there and it was amazing, really emotional & I could feel tears welling up in my eyes. Just so,so good... unplugged or plugged in it does not matter, U2 are phenomenal

Great - but please not all "unplugged"
This acoustic version is fabulous, great, awesome! But please, in a concert just one or tow showstoppers! I would love to hear EBW in a full band version. U2 is a rockband and electrifies with full guitars, drums, bass.

Acoustic asap.
Yes. If the song is good it is even better unplugged. Like this one. It is really as good as laughing out or tearing out, it is so stunning!, starting from Bonos excellent input until the ultra cool base and Larry like a statement. I think It was The Edge somewhere who mentioned something about The Songs of Experience and maybe an intimate tour? Acoustic? Unplugged? It would be very interesting. 360 was all about the ufo landed. It was awesome in different parts of the continent to see that construction waiting for the crowd, had landed. What s wonderful idea. How about a brave step forward. This band is the best one to do that Actually I do think there's no one else who might.

A thought for the upcoming tour...
This was incredible. Wouldn't it be a complete 180 turn from the 360 tour to do all the songs in this beautiful, stripped down fashion for the next tour? Something I would love to see and hear.

The melody above the hurt
This raw and emotional performance gives me chills. Thanks U2 for being the melody above the hurt.

Damn ...
Wow. Just wow. This song sounds like it could've been written this at any point in their career, which makes it a timeless U2 song. This is a truly fantastic song that reminds me that this band is far more about their music then they ever were about their public image.

U2 IS PERFECT

Unplug all song, please!
I didn't like this song at first hearing of LP; then Bono and The Edge came on Italian TV the day before the phisical release of the new record. They played the Miracle and Every Breaking Wave unplugged. The Miracle with only guitar and EBW with piano only. That night I changed my mind. EBW MUST be played unplugged even without Larry and Adam (sorry guys). This version with violins is amazing, but the piano only.......On the net I've heard also Song for Someone and Cedarwood Road played unplugged. Maybe, after the big 360, is it time for a small intimate unplugged tour?

Go u2 Go!
This version is just amazing! Also such a great album... I've been a fan for the last 30 some years. U2 saved my life in the early 80s with the album unforgettable fire. I almost met them while I was working at a 5 star hotel back in the 90s. I wish I would have to thank them and tell them my amazing story. I saw all of U2 concerts in Montréal since 1986. My wife who saw U2 for the 1st Time on there 360" tour. Just told me last weekend. "I want you to get the best seats in the house when they come back" Now my 5 year old boy and 8 year old girl are fans. How amazing is that!! I never usually comment on blogs but I wanted to just say, get up your feet a.s.a.p Bono and do what you and the boys do best, Rock the house down. Peace Poetonastool
