U2.com slipped into the studio a few days back where the band played us the new tracks and we were blown away. A kind of musical autobiography, the eleven new songs chart their earliest influences from 70s rock and punk to early 80s electronica and soul... and reveal how music changed everything. As Bono sings in the lead song, 'The Miracle (Of Joey Ramone)' 'I woke up when the miracle occurred/ Heard a song that made some sense out of the world...'

Exploring themes of home and family, relationships and discovery, detailed liner notes fill out the picture with resonant stories, like one of the first gigs the teenage band got into.

'The 4 members of U2 went to see the Ramones playing in the state cinema in Dublin without thinking about how we were going to get in. we had no tickets and no money.. My best friend Guggi had a ticket and he snuck us through a side exit he pried open. The world stopped long enough for us to get on it. Even though we only saw half the show, it became one of the great nights of our life....'

Songs of Innocence was recorded in Dublin, London, New York and Los Angeles and is produced by Danger Mouse, along with Paul Epworth, Ryan Tedder, Declan Gaffney and Flood. The album closes with 'The Troubles' featuring the distinctive vocals of Swedish indie singer-songwriter Lykke Li.

Here's the eleven tracks: The Miracle (of Joey Ramone), Every Breaking Wave, California (There Is No End To Love), Song For Someone, Iris (Hold Me Close), Volcano, Raised By Wolves, Cedarwood Road, Sleep Like A Baby Tonight, This Is Where You Can Reach Me Now, The Troubles.

On October 13th the physical release of Songs of Innocence comes with a 24-page booklet. A deluxe, gatefold double album, contains an acoustic session of songs from the album and four additional tracks: Lucifer's Hands, The Crystal Ballroom, The Troubles (Alternative version) and Sleep Like a Baby Tonight (Alternative Perspective Mix by Tchad Blake)

The album will also be available as a gatefold, double white-vinyl LP with an exclusive remix of "The Crystal Ballroom".

back to basics please...
Great songs ... but I guess they would sound better in the basic U2 setup with some Edge vintage guitar ... without all the synth production stuff.

Songs of Innocence
These sounds are not expecting me. A 54 years is difficult to impress, but they have succeeded using the power of simplicity. BIG.

FRESH....FRESHER....THE MOST FRESH !!
The long waiting has paid of in an unbelievable way !! What a record. It'sounds fresh, it's souns new but also at the same time very U2. It's'full of energy and joy. If this was their first album I would fall for their music in the same way as I did when "I heard "BOY" for the first time ! Oustandig (and that's an understatement) job !! Thank you Larry, Adam, Edge and Bono. Humble suggestion; every breaking wave as show opener next year would be perfect.

New Album
I love ALL the tracks on this album. Definitely worth the wait. It's good they've finally moved on from Eno and Lanois: they produced my favourite albums, Unforgettable Fire & Achtung Baby. This new one ranks among their best ever. Hope to see them live!

I think this is a great album - I love so mutch the sound of "every breacking wave" - "Volcano" and "This Is Where You Can Reach Me Now" ......... and how I can't spend words for the meaning of songs like "Rised by Wolves" and "Cedarwood road" . A TRUE ARTIST renewed itself every time ...... Thanks Bono, Edge, Larry, Adam . GOD BLESS YOU

Sublime!
Brilliant! - well worth the wait and such a historical, (and generous) way to release the album by giving it away to so many. What a great way to start Spring by listening to new music from my favourite band. Can't wait to see you back in Oz for the next tour and to see what other surprises you have in store.

iTunes SUCKS!
Free download....yeah right!! Apple the corporate rip off merchants have stuffed up again. Where is the free download? It says I've purchased and supposed to be in my library......really......just another advertising Apple gimmick.

thank you for still surprising me
Didn't think U2 could surprise me anymore - but you did! The way they of releasing this new 'baby' was really something new. The songs are amazing what I can tell from the first few listening sessions but I'm sure I'll discover a lot more going deeper into them within the next weeks. Thanks a lot for being what and how you are - best band ever! :)))
shampoo
Awesome.
Some of U2's best songs are written about what they know, and they come out top again here with some fantastic lyrics relating to Dublin, their lives, their loves, their childhoods. The album gets better with every listen, meaning a longstanding album that we can listen to for years to come versus a catchy pop album we soon forget. What a job U2 - you continue to be awesome.

A Revelation!
After the release of Invisible I had my doubts about the forthcoming album, but Songs of Innocence is a breath of fresh air, a revelation! Favourites at the moment are The Miracle (of Joey Ramone) and Song for someone. Thank you Bono, Edge, Adam & Larry - Good job!

It's Simply Wonderful!!
Thanks U2! I had weeks where I was having horrible days, and I was at my job super annoyed with the numerous problems to solve, when I received the news that the new album was being released and that was also available for free download on iTunes! When I received this news, it's like all my agony, my pain, my anger, my frustration, my problems were gone! And all I thought was, "it's simply wonderful!" Now I'm enjoying, and enjoying too much this new album! Thank you. It's been wonderful!

What is not to Love!
What an idea, and the boys took us by surprise yet again. Although I super excited to listen to this LP over and over until by ears are ringing I have my fingers crossed this means a tour very soon, to celebrate the music together. May I request the next release have Mercy and Northstar on them please. Play it Loud everyone and let the world know the boys are coming back to Town. See you soon in Toronto.
