U2.com slipped into the studio a few days back where the band played us the new tracks and we were blown away. A kind of musical autobiography, the eleven new songs chart their earliest influences from 70s rock and punk to early 80s electronica and soul... and reveal how music changed everything. As Bono sings in the lead song, 'The Miracle (Of Joey Ramone)' 'I woke up when the miracle occurred/ Heard a song that made some sense out of the world...'

Exploring themes of home and family, relationships and discovery, detailed liner notes fill out the picture with resonant stories, like one of the first gigs the teenage band got into.

'The 4 members of U2 went to see the Ramones playing in the state cinema in Dublin without thinking about how we were going to get in. we had no tickets and no money.. My best friend Guggi had a ticket and he snuck us through a side exit he pried open. The world stopped long enough for us to get on it. Even though we only saw half the show, it became one of the great nights of our life....'

Songs of Innocence was recorded in Dublin, London, New York and Los Angeles and is produced by Danger Mouse, along with Paul Epworth, Ryan Tedder, Declan Gaffney and Flood. The album closes with 'The Troubles' featuring the distinctive vocals of Swedish indie singer-songwriter Lykke Li.

Here's the eleven tracks: The Miracle (of Joey Ramone), Every Breaking Wave, California (There Is No End To Love), Song For Someone, Iris (Hold Me Close), Volcano, Raised By Wolves, Cedarwood Road, Sleep Like A Baby Tonight, This Is Where You Can Reach Me Now, The Troubles.

On October 13th the physical release of Songs of Innocence comes with a 24-page booklet. A deluxe, gatefold double album, contains an acoustic session of songs from the album and four additional tracks: Lucifer's Hands, The Crystal Ballroom, The Troubles (Alternative version) and Sleep Like a Baby Tonight (Alternative Perspective Mix by Tchad Blake)

The album will also be available as a gatefold, double white-vinyl LP with an exclusive remix of "The Crystal Ballroom".

Amazing Surprise
I'm on my third round of listening to the album. It will take a while to digest, but so far, all of the songs sound fantastic. Everyone in the band sounds awesome, but I must say that Adam totally and absolutely kicks some ass on this album. Favorite songs so far -- Every Breaking Wave, Song for Someone, Volcano, and This is Where You Can Reach Me Now.

Very NIce
I've been a fan since some time between AB and Zooropa and I have to admit that I'v been down on the band the past couple years. Whether it was the length of time between albums or the fact that I'm not a fan of NLOTH, I had very low expectations for a band of guy in their 50's but so far I am liking what I hear. Plus it was free which I never would have expected U2 to do. I can't wait to get to work tomorrow, plug in my headphones, put my phone on repeat and absorb all of it.

Wow....
Just heard the new album. Wow, just wow. Love it!! I didnt understand the hate that NLOTH received, only that it seemed to lack a "hit radio" single. But Songs Of Innocence is just raw goodness. All the songs are just ..... well..... fantastic... Cant wait for a new tour. These new songs will just explode live!

Truly Worth the Wait
Thank you so much, Bono, Edge, Larry, and Adam. You have delivered us all a masterpiece. This is an epic album for all of the band members, Bono sings his heart out, Edge picks off more amazing and complicated-yet-simple sounds out of his guitar, Larry beats the drums with pure meaning and emotion, and Adam's bass sounds raw and powerful. This might be my favorite album already, between the amazing lyrics, guitar and bass riffs, vocals, and drum beats. Bravo. Looking forward to the sister album, Songs of Experience.

Amazing
Thank you U2 for being so generous! Love the new album! Much gratitude!

Writers block my ars!
All these rumors about Bono having writers block….what bulls#@t…He says today they wrote five albums, they just didn't release them yet…I think it's true..I think we see three albums in a matter of months! This band just showed social media how it should be done!

Fantastic album!!!
Easily best since ATYCLB. Actually I already like ALL songs on the album, which happens for me for the first time since the release of Achtung Baby. If I had to pick my 3 fave songs they would be Iris, Sleep Like a Baby Tonight and the new version of Every Breaking Wave. I have goosebumps each time listening to them!
Cruel
He calls it Iris….I would call it Mary J
Bono is obviously singing about his mum who passed when he was just 14..a few years farther in for me at 19...

Hard Copy Needed!
I do not have access to iTunes because I do not own a computer and my phone is an android. I am immensly frustrated that I must wait for the release of the disc/vinyl a month from now in order to hear this highly anticipated album. The exclusive deal with Apple is disappointing, capitalistic, and elitist, all words that I have never associated with my all-time favorite group of artists. The idea of free music is wonderful-- art for the masses!-- but by limiting the deal to iTunes only, at least one devoted fan is left out. And don't forget that with this exclusivity, Apple now "owns" this body of work, always being the ones that "gave it away for free" along with a large dose of publicity for their newest gadget. Oh, well. I have waited five years for the new album: what's one more month? On a different note: love the William Blake title. Will be interesting to see how the songs correpond to the poems or how the band was inspired by them.

Wiliam Blake & U2
The poet william blake had released a book of poetry called the Songs of Innocence and Experience. this has to be more than a coincidence - rather i think exploring the themes in the poetry may reflect a lot of what the music is about. From childhood to adulthood. From boy to...this, if you will. okay now i listen to it instead of conjecturing!
Cruel
The Troubles
The lyrics say it all….Someone stepped inside your soul…someone else is in control…your not my troubles anymore
Joe Man 2003
Wow....
In complete awe, and gratitude that after following this band since 1996 they can still move me. I can't wait for the tour! Thank you U2!
Cruel
I think Larry is happy
This album is making him think….I really wish we could have agreed to The Larry Mullins Band!

Innocent Baby
Thank you to U2, U2.com & the Apple folks for making this new creation a reality. Just found out recently we have a new baby girl on the way early next year & it thrills me when Bono says we 'have a new baby' of an album here with Songs if Innocence. I teared up when I heard the line 'the most beautiful sound I've ever heard' during the live debut of 'The Miracle (of Joey Ramone)' - we just heard our baby's heartbeat for the first time exactly 1 week ago. It's sending chills down my spine. We plan to name her Evelyn Grace (first middle). Our names are Kevin & Linda so a little of both our names, but also partially inspired by the final track from All That You Can't Leave Behind & the name of a certain lead singer's daughter ;-)

Thank you! :)
Hands down my favorite song is Song for Someone - listening now for the 4th time and I get the chills up and down my body every time - I just luv it! You all sound amazing!
