The Joshua Tree Tour 2017

5 Jan 2017255

The band will be out on the road again this summer celebrating the 30th anniversary of The Joshua Tree and performing the album in full, every night. In July the tour brings them home to Croke Park in Dublin, 30 years after the original Joshua Tree Tour’s two memorable shows at the Dublin venue in June 1987.

U2: The Joshua Tree Tour 2017 kicks off in Vancouver on 12th May for a run of dates across North America, and includes U2’s first ever U.S. festival headline appearance at the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival.

The tour then moves to Europe with the first stop in London on 8th July, finishing up in Brussels on 1st August and taking in their hometown show in Croke Park on 22nd July.

Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds will provide support across Europe, with Mumford & Sons, The Lumineers and One Republic joining the tour through North America.

“It seems like we have come full circle from when The Joshua Tree songs were originally writtten, with global upheaval, extreme right wing politics and some fundamental human rights at risk,” reflects The Edge. “To celebrate the album - as these songs seem so relevant and prescient of these times too - we decided to do these shows, it feels right for now. We’re looking forward to it.”

“Recently I listened back to The Joshua Tree for the first time in nearly 30 years,” adds Bono. “It’s quite an opera. A lot of emotions which feel strangely current, love, loss, broken dreams, seeking oblivion, polarisation… all the greats... I’ve sung some of these songs a lot… but never all of them. I’m up for it, if our audience is as excited as we are… it’s gonna be a great night. Especially when we play at home. Croke Park.. it’s where the album was born, 30 years ago.”

Tickets for U2: The Joshua Tree Tour 2017 are on sale Monday, January 16th in Ireland, the UK and Europe and on Tuesday, January 17th in the US and Canada. Ticket prices start at €35.00 / £35.00 / $35.00 with general admission floor tickets at  €70.00 / £70.00  / $70.00.

As usual, there is an exclusive priority presale for U2.com subscribers from Wednesday, January 11th (9am) through Friday, January 13th (5pm) local times. Tickets will be general admission on the floor and reserved seating in the stands. There will be a 4 ticket limit for subscriber purchases and a 6 ticket limit commencing with public sales. In North America, all floor tickets will be paperless unless otherwise noted.

Find all the dates below and keep an eye on our Tour page for the latest ticket and package information.

Released to universal acclaim on March 9th 1987 and featuring hit singles “With Or Without You”,“I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” and “Where The Streets Have No Name”, The Joshua Tree went to No. 1 in Ireland and around the world selling in excess of 25 million copies and catapulting Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr “… from heroes to superstars” (Rolling Stone).

Time Magazine put U2 on its cover in April 1987, proclaiming them “Rock’s Hottest Ticket” in a defining year for the band that saw their arena dates roll into stadium shows to accommodate escalating demand - setting them on course to become one of the greatest live acts in the world today.

The 12 months that followed saw the band create now-iconic moments: the traffic-stopping Grammy Award-winning music video on the roof of a Los Angeles liquor store, winning a BRIT Award and two Grammys - including Album of the Year - their first of 22 received to date, distinguishing U2 as the most awarded rock band in Grammy history; as well as a triumphant return home with the original Joshua Tree Tour for four unforgettable shows in Belfast, Dublin and Cork in the summer of 1987.

In 1987 Hot Press called The Joshua Tree “their most influential album yet”. As for this tour? Noel Gallagher says, “It will be both a pleasure and an honour to play my part in what still remains the greatest show on earth.”

second time around
My first ever concert, 1st of July 1987, Leeds. And man, what a show! I became a massive U2 fan ever since. I remember the sudden surge of the crowd as U2 appeared on stage and a sudden flash of electricity that seemed to engulf every single one of us. This concert set me on my way to loving live music and I have since seen them and others many times. What an absolute pleasure to be seeing them on the Joshua tree tour 2017 with my two brothers. I can not wait, (and then seeing JAMES in Newcastle tree weeks later! my two favourite bands in one month!) Thanks lads for the brilliant music and good times, if feels like I have come full circle. bring it on. xx

I totally get Bono when he suggests that the issues being highlighted through the Joshua Tree narrative (predominantly involving the US) have gone full circle, and there is as much relevance and meaning in the lyrics today as there was in the mid-eighties. This Tour can also support a movement that voices compassion, diversity and true liberalism as a counter to the right wing movements that are rising globally (specifically in the US). By the time the Tour begins I am convinced there will be a global movement that this tour can help accelerate. I listened to Silver & Gold this morning and it seems to sit right at the centre of what is happening in Trump America. This needs to appear on the tour - either as a mash-up with Bullet or in it's own right!!

PLEASE
U2, please, I´m young, I never saw you before, but I´m growing up on your music, it is my dream to see you, to hear you live. But you will not travel to our countrey, as you didn´t in last 20 years, so I please you, do more shows in Berlin, I really want to see you. And for other people, you should visit South America, Australia and more countries in Europe, but I understand you, It´s hard for you to travel so much. Although I please you to do more shows, we love you!

I Feel So Lucky !!
How lucky I am.......since 1981 I can't get enough seeing performing of these 4 beautiful musician from Dublin. As a 15 year old boy I saw U2 for the first time @ Pinkpop, a dutch festival when I heard Bono & Co at 11 o'Clock in the morning. People were still coming in, most people still sleepy and hanging on the field drinking coffee !! At the end of the 1 hour gig 50.000 people Wide Awake, yelling and applauding very enthusiastic. When the played the encore, the played I Will Follow for the second time. I Was flabbergasted, that sound of Edges guitar, Bono's voice........I was in front of the stage with my Aunt yelling for Bono, the hey said......."You not supposed to know who we are........."and I think we have some friends in the front"and 50.000 people responded.........Bono again....."I think we have friend all over the place" en then again the crowd responded overwhelming. Since then I saw every gig in Holland, most shows double ore triple....... I feel so lucky to be part of this part of Musical History ! And now heading the 2 shows in Amsterdam...I have already General Admission tickets for both nights !!! Time to practice all U2 songs again on my guitar(s) you never know :-)

Would you could you so you say?
See them see them yes I will, See them See them for a thrill, Would you see them on a boat? I would see them in a moat, Would you see them on a plane? I would see them in the rain. Would you see them In Rome? I would see them in a Dome! Would you listen to them in a car? I would listen to them on a star! Would you dance with them on a Mountain? I would dance with them in a Fountain. So, there’s not one place you’d go to see U2’s awesome show? I'd drive 7 hours to "Sweet home Chicago. Buy a ticket and you will see, There’s nothing like U2 and that Joshua Tree……………

Missed Out
I was lucky to go and see U2 on the last tour but this time due to financial constants just can't go which I am very sad. I would love to see U2 do some secret gigs such as Rock City in Nottingham, its still a fantastic venue and I would of been too young to see them in 1981 when they performed there. So I will just have to wait until the next tour & bring my son along. Hope everyone who got tickets has a great time; U2 are great stage performers and always but on an amazing show.
