Your Band. Your Questions.

6 Mar 2017285

This Thursday it’s thirty years to the day since the release of The Joshua Tree and Adam, Bono, Edge and Larry will be live online to answer your questions about this iconic record.

Ask them anything about the legendary 1987 career-defining release The Joshua Tree and the subsequent sold out tour which saw U2 take The Joshua Tree on the road, playing stadiums for the very first time.

What’s your question?

Which was the song that nearly never made it?
What was your personal highlight of 1987 ?
What was it like recording in Adam’s house?
Which one song on the record proved the biggest surprise?

Your band, your questions - post them in the comments below or on FaceBook, TwitterInstagram, Google + and Tumblr. Use the hashtag #AskU2 #U2TheJoshuaTree2017

Then tune in to the band’s facebook page this Thursday at 3pm (EST) to catch U2 live from the studio… answering your questions.

UPDATE: If you missed it...Celebrating the 30th anniversary of The Joshua Tree #askU2 #TheJoshuaTree2017

No regrets?
AskU2 #U2TheJoshuaTree2017 Hello guys, So the “Joshuah Tree” is the first tree that you decided to cut down, right? Aren’t you scared that the legend will keep in mind 4 genius who could have been lumbermen, more than their capacity of re-inventing themselves?  Love you Althen P.S Don’t forget to add Zürich to the venues list in the next months.

On EXIT
'Exit': a dark song which you sang with a dark intensity back in '87. How is it going in rehearsals? How will it feel to play it in 2017? Steve, Ireland #AskU2 #U2TheJoshuaTree2017

What would you take from 1987 to now?
Without going on too much about how much I love the band's music (despite my deafness I can hear those wonderful songs and lyrics through repeated listening) but my first 2 concerts (of 17 to now) was on the Joshua Tree tour st a fragile age of 19 in 1987 which were amazing so the question is what kind of things you would take to replicate that spirit from then to now? PS looking forward to see you in Paris 26.07!

With or without you! The same or differe
You recorded the song, then it was final en carved in stone. After that you play the song live more than a thousand times and you discover new possibilities/effects/textlines. If you could record the song all over again would it be different?

Missing Songs
Were there any songs that didn't make the cut to the Joshua Tree that you wish had been on there?

Question - One Tree Hill
Since the eighties the band has been playing 'One Tree Hill' only sporadically. It is said that the song, that is dedicated to Greg Caroll, brings up too many emotions. How are you looking forward to playing this song every night? Is it with mixed emotions? I know that myself and a lot of fans are very excited to hearing and seeing you perform that beautiful song. It will be a magical and emotional moment for me in the Red Zone in Brussels... Many thanks in advance! Wim, Belgian fan

Have any of the band members returned to the site of the Joshua Tree photo shoot since 86/87?

Back to the future
If you could back in time is there anything you'd change on the album or on the tour?

God walking through the room
Hello and thank you for all you guys have given us. Your music brings grace and clarity to a lot of us when we need it most. I was wondering when was first time each of you had that feeling of God walking through the room while recording and playing The Joshua Tree? #AskU2 #U2TheJoshuaTree2017

Your Band.Your Questions
With the 2017 tour imminent is the set list going to be like it was in 1987? Remembering Wembley when i was 17,don't know if i can jump up and down like that again, but i'll give it my best shot
Helbig
Helbig's questions
1. Out of all 11 songs, which is your favourite song and why? 2. Which was the hardest video clip to do and most expensive? 3. How long did the Joshua Tree take to put altogether before it was all finished? 4. What makes the Joshua Tree album so special to you?

joshua tree innocence to joshua tree exp
In 1985, innocent 19yr old me asked just turned 17 her to our first date at the Unforgettable Fire tour. We dated until the summer of Joshua Tree, broke apart and sadly she never saw a u2 show again, though your soundtrack kept us timeless through 30 years. When you released your own innocence and experience, we reconnected to ours as well, and she did say yes to me before the Boston Ie show.. Now that I finally have tickets for this summer's Joshua Tree tour (thanks to U2.com Fan Club!) I'm on my knees to make up for the show we could have then attended in 5/87 but were too naive to realize the power of love and of this album... you help convince Kristen to chose the day to marry me?... that is... What was the date Trip Through your wires was written? (for it sounds like a good day for celebrating an anniversary?) ( what's the story behind it?) (consider it when you play Trip thru your wires at Boston? ... you might not dedicate it to her, but you know i will. thirty years longing is a desert indeed )

30 Years... and it gets better with age.
As the timeless album "The Joshua Tree" turns 30, it's amazing how it sounds as relevant and complete today as it did when it was first released. What album that released in 1987 or prior still amazes you as you listen to it from start to finish? #AskU2 #U2TheJoshuaTree2017

JT question for U2 from die-hard fan
This is a very exciting time to be a U2 fan- in between the i&e sister albums and getting the reboot of the Joshua Tree 30 years after it was born. My question is what do you as a band hope this JT 30th Ann'y tour experience gives someone like me, a die-hard 35-yr old fan that never had the opportunity to see you perform back then? By the way you pulled me up on stage to sing 'Desire' along with the blind guitarist Shawn in Chicago June 28 2015. See our photo. Thank you for the life changing moment and having the trust in us. You've all made us better people with your love and passion, even before bringing us on stage. I'm learning guitar now! Hope to see you again maybe on stage-Sincerely, Kevin Crabtree #AskU2 #U2TheJoshuaTree2017

Fans recording the shows
How do you feel about people recording audio and video of your shows to share with other fans? Does the band record the shows themselves and would they ever consider releasing the recordings?

Edge-less
So what are the odds of Anton Corbijn ever getting a photograph of The Edge sitting on a stone wall without a shirt, without shoes and without a hat during this new Tour?

Prince Cover
This has nothing to do with the upcoming tour, but... I know every blue moon you will play a cover. For years I have imagined U2 covering Prince's "Kiss" in a slowed down, dirty blusey, funked-out version. Maybe this is better suited for the Achtung Baby 2020 tour. Think about it. See you in LA, May 20! I'll be in section 5. Thomas

The Joshua Tree in Hi-Res Audio
Are there any plans to release The Joshua Tree on SACD, Blu-Ray Audio, or/and a Hi-Res Audio (24bit/192k) so the fans can experience this album the way it sounded in the recording studio in all of its full glory ?

Question
If each member of the band could provide an answer we the audience would be most appreciative. Do you ever wonder what it would be like to be in the audience at a U2 concert? I just realised that neither Bono, The Edge, Adam or Larry have ever been able to sit back, relax and enjoy a U2 show...well maybe Adam has once...

Question for Joshua Tree
In the lead up to the 30 year reunion tour, is there a song that has become a favourite to play live that wasn't before?

What is your abiding memory ( as a band or individually ) of the Joshua Tree Tour 1987 ?

The Joshua Tree (March 30th, 1990)
March 30th 1990 A grieving moment and your song With Or Without You, plays through my Nephews window, while we gathered in the back yard. My sister-in-law see's, that I'm standing along grieving the lose of my beautiful wife ROSALINDA. With the sun setting in the distanced and my family at my side. I will always remember that moment and your song will always make me shed a tear for her. Thank you.
