Last month, at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York, Bono was a guest at the annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction dinner.
Paying homage to Island Records founder Chris Blackwell, Bono gladhanded a small galaxy of other luminaries from the rock world and music business.
'The whole world if full of freaks,' he said. 'Look at yourselves. God makes music out of his mistakes. I know - I'm one of them.'
Bono was on hand to do the honours for Chris Blackwell who founded Island Records and originally signed U2 to the label.
Moby inducted Steely Dan, fresh from their surprise success with U2 at the Grammy Awards, while the Foo Fighters inducted Queen.
Keith Richards (pictured with Bono) was on hand to honour guitarist James Burton and pianist Johnie Johnson.
Aerosmith (Steven Tyler also pictured with Bono) were inducted by Kid Rock who described them as 'the greatest rock band in American history.'
