Forty… one.

6 Feb 202369

Those forty songs of surrender are coming in just a few weeks.
'Seminal' U2 tracks, now reimagined.
'Pride (In The Name of Love)' and 'With Or Without You' are already here.
Four albums.
Ten tracks each.
'I looked at how a song would hang together if all but the bare essential elements were taken away.' says Edge, talking about his work in curating and producing the new collection.

Reimagined Tracks
Can't wait to hear how the stripped-down versions of "Where The Streets Have No Name" and "Two Hearts Beat As One" are gonna sound. Sad that there's not a version of "New Year's Day" (one of my all-time favorites).

This is going to be fantastic...
I was THRILLED to see the inclusion of "Little Things," as it's one of the band's best tracks of the last 20 years, along with "Every Breaking Wave." But I would've liked to have seen more love for No Line On The Horizon..."Moment of Surrender" and "Breathe" deserve to be heard again!

Moment of surrender
When I went to my first u2 concert together with my parents being 14 years old in Amsterdam in 2009 and 2nd concert in Brussels two years later I absolutely loved the 360 tour. Would have loved to see some of the no line on the horizon songs being reimagined, moment of surrender would be my pick. I can't wait for the full Songs of Surrender album to come out though

New Years Day
I would have thought New Years Day would have been a track for sure.

Good question
I am very excited about Songs of Surrender based on the snippets I have heard of 11 O’Clock Tick Tock and The Fly in particular. Very excited to hear Miracle Drug, Electrical Storm and Lights of Home, all songs that I think could benefit from a stripped-down instrumentation. If I have one ‘complaint’ about the Songs of Surrender playlist it is the lack of songs from No Line on the Horizon - I was genuinely excited to hear Moment of Surrender reimagined after seeing it as a chapter title in Bono’s book. It’s one of U2’s best songs. If I was to add a 41st song, it would be that. If I could add a 42nd song on top of that, it would be Mofo from Pop - it’s a great riff and a great lyric, would be interesting to hear a new take on it.

Less of the hits
If god will send his angels is the one I’m most looking forward to, closely followed by peace on earth. I would have included less hits in general and went with something like Lemon sung lower by Bono rather than the falsetto just for an alternative to what is already a great original version and which could have maybe been tried live to suit Bono’s voice today.
