U2.com slipped into the studio a few days back where the band played us the new tracks and we were blown away. A kind of musical autobiography, the eleven new songs chart their earliest influences from 70s rock and punk to early 80s electronica and soul... and reveal how music changed everything. As Bono sings in the lead song, 'The Miracle (Of Joey Ramone)' 'I woke up when the miracle occurred/ Heard a song that made some sense out of the world...'

Exploring themes of home and family, relationships and discovery, detailed liner notes fill out the picture with resonant stories, like one of the first gigs the teenage band got into.

'The 4 members of U2 went to see the Ramones playing in the state cinema in Dublin without thinking about how we were going to get in. we had no tickets and no money.. My best friend Guggi had a ticket and he snuck us through a side exit he pried open. The world stopped long enough for us to get on it. Even though we only saw half the show, it became one of the great nights of our life....'

Songs of Innocence was recorded in Dublin, London, New York and Los Angeles and is produced by Danger Mouse, along with Paul Epworth, Ryan Tedder, Declan Gaffney and Flood. The album closes with 'The Troubles' featuring the distinctive vocals of Swedish indie singer-songwriter Lykke Li.

Here's the eleven tracks: The Miracle (of Joey Ramone), Every Breaking Wave, California (There Is No End To Love), Song For Someone, Iris (Hold Me Close), Volcano, Raised By Wolves, Cedarwood Road, Sleep Like A Baby Tonight, This Is Where You Can Reach Me Now, The Troubles.

On October 13th the physical release of Songs of Innocence comes with a 24-page booklet. A deluxe, gatefold double album, contains an acoustic session of songs from the album and four additional tracks: Lucifer's Hands, The Crystal Ballroom, The Troubles (Alternative version) and Sleep Like a Baby Tonight (Alternative Perspective Mix by Tchad Blake)

The album will also be available as a gatefold, double white-vinyl LP with an exclusive remix of "The Crystal Ballroom".

I'll be waiting a little bit more...
Well, that's good news and I'm so happy about it, but I think I will wait another month and then I will buy me a double LP on white vinyl and then I will enjoy it on my stereo from my favorite chair at home. I still prefer really listening to the music, especially if it is for the first time and if it is my favorite band... Don't like listening to the music just to hear it as an info. I love albums. I hope Songs Of Experience will see the light of day in 2015. Then I'll buy me an album too. Hoping for a tour in 2015. and looking forward to see you guys in Croatia again! Keep a good spirit, you know there is no end to love...

Fresh and unexpected sound
Fresh is the Word! Very interesting and unexpected sound. U2 are always doing unexpected things and musical surprises. Nobody expected this sound and this musical direction from them. So - hats off! Overall - very interesting stuff. BUT (someone wrote about it here) - there are no apparent hit singles. Like One, like Beautiful Day, like Stay, like With or Without You. What will they air on radio, what songs will remain for the next decades? Let's wait and see - we all need to absorb it. P.S. Love U2 :-))

Amazing :-)
Hello U2, It's been a while, too long if you ask me, but your new album ROCKS, thank you. I've been a long time fan (since 1984) and love every album you've made so far, Songs of Innocence included :-), but if this was your first album you caught me again, wonderful songs that rock and songs that move. It's great, please don't listen to the people that diss it, yeah, they have a right to speak their mind, but when you read between the lines, they're too stuck in the 80's, or expect a "certain U2", and you can't live up to everyone's expectation anyway, it's a new and fresh U2 :-) Please keep on making new music and keep performing for decades to come!

Love it!
Really blown away, after "No Line" (one of the best records if you ask me) I didn't knew what U2 could make, this record sounds raw, violent, sweet, it is indeed one of the examples of U2 at their best! Great work guys, really loved "Every Breaking Wave" :)

In My Humble Opinion
I think the 'fans' who don't appreciate this album have not listened to Boy and/or October enough....or at all for that matter! Volcano is clearly a throw-back to that sound. The punk sound they wanted to capture as youths. The events they were witnessing in the 70's in Ireland. Miracle is rock and roll at it's best. It's a thundering sound and I can feel Larry's rhythm here. He really shines on this album. I have seen a lot of people complaining that Edge is not present enough in the songs. I can understand that...Edge is awesome. Adam showcases his bass talent here for sure. However, U2 changes and progresses and shifts. If you don't love that about them, then you don't love U2. You should never expect another Joshua Tree, another No Line On the Horizon. At this stage in THEIR lives and careers you should expect something mixed of all the influences of sounds they have heard and taken in mixed with lyrics showcasing their souls, lives, and burdens. They gifted that to us and I thank them for it! I love their newness.......always!
Thank you, you guys are amazing!!
No comment needed, just a big "YOU GUYS ROCK"!! MUCH LOVE!!

Thank you!

Letting Go?
There were lyrics on the new album referring to not chasing the waves, which could be taken as a sort of goodbye to being on the top. A band of this magnitude known for its energy however deserves a better sendoff than this sort of forced collection of mediocre midtempo songs. U2 right now does not believe in themselves, and that goes directly to their music. Whatever happened to dreaming out loud? To me 2014 sounds like mixture of Tame Impala, St Vincent, Anna Calvi and Temples - not like this album.

Songs of.....
Are people missing the point here.... Free album...draw fans in....they have written other songs....Bono has stated there is "songs for experience" on its way....what about "songs of ascent" that has been talked about for so long.... They have "written" four albums worth of tracks and the tie in with apple and how they will release further media is something that, I for one, am looking forward to! U2 have been, and always will remain, revolutionary in tour concepts etc....so....everyone sit back and enjoy the ride here as I think it's going to be a good one!!

Music unites us
Yesterday a group of 4 friends were excited chatting on WhatsApp about the iPhone and the Apple Watch… but suddenly we forgot about all that and 24 hours later, we haven’t stopped chatting about songs, sounds, lyrics, Bono’s voice, Edge’s guitar, Larry’s beats and Adam’s bass. U2 has done it again. It has united us. Thank you U2. Thanks for keeping us dreaming out loud.

Worth Every Day Of Waiting
I've joined the U2-world back in the late 80's with. Every new U2-Album since Rattle&Hum was magnificent, sheer greatness to me, but this new one JUST BLOW ME AWAY!!! I mean, who could have believed, that the boys are would surprise us with stuff like this? Sounding so fresh, roaring, driven by pure energy! Every day since four years I was hoping, wishing, waiting. But it was worth the waiting! Every single day! U2 - thank you so much!!!
Carlos M
Songs of Innocence, thanks..
