U2.com slipped into the studio a few days back where the band played us the new tracks and we were blown away. A kind of musical autobiography, the eleven new songs chart their earliest influences from 70s rock and punk to early 80s electronica and soul... and reveal how music changed everything. As Bono sings in the lead song, 'The Miracle (Of Joey Ramone)' 'I woke up when the miracle occurred/ Heard a song that made some sense out of the world...'

Exploring themes of home and family, relationships and discovery, detailed liner notes fill out the picture with resonant stories, like one of the first gigs the teenage band got into.

'The 4 members of U2 went to see the Ramones playing in the state cinema in Dublin without thinking about how we were going to get in. we had no tickets and no money.. My best friend Guggi had a ticket and he snuck us through a side exit he pried open. The world stopped long enough for us to get on it. Even though we only saw half the show, it became one of the great nights of our life....'

Songs of Innocence was recorded in Dublin, London, New York and Los Angeles and is produced by Danger Mouse, along with Paul Epworth, Ryan Tedder, Declan Gaffney and Flood. The album closes with 'The Troubles' featuring the distinctive vocals of Swedish indie singer-songwriter Lykke Li.

Here's the eleven tracks: The Miracle (of Joey Ramone), Every Breaking Wave, California (There Is No End To Love), Song For Someone, Iris (Hold Me Close), Volcano, Raised By Wolves, Cedarwood Road, Sleep Like A Baby Tonight, This Is Where You Can Reach Me Now, The Troubles.

On October 13th the physical release of Songs of Innocence comes with a 24-page booklet. A deluxe, gatefold double album, contains an acoustic session of songs from the album and four additional tracks: Lucifer's Hands, The Crystal Ballroom, The Troubles (Alternative version) and Sleep Like a Baby Tonight (Alternative Perspective Mix by Tchad Blake)

The album will also be available as a gatefold, double white-vinyl LP with an exclusive remix of "The Crystal Ballroom".

Just Love it
Just Love It. Have been playing it on repeat all day and it just gets better. Please don't leave it that long again for an album. Roll on the Tour!!!!!!

best songs grow during time
it will get better after listening songs more often. A song that hits me direct will not stay favorite for me, so.....will be a great album!

I am a die hard U2 fan, have been since 1985 and listen to at least 1 album a week religiously. The new one doesnt have 1 stand out track. When I heard Invisible for RED I was really looking forward to the new album thinking it would be of a similar vein. Im hoping this one is a grower as it needs to be if U2 want to stay relevant.

Dive in
For now, rise above the chatter: all the forums, the reviews, the love and the vitriol - Turn off the noise and just dive into these amazing songs - linger on this journey to another time and place, and all the way back to now. To listen and let the songs slowly reveal themselves in their many layers of sound and words is well worth the trip.

This is a joke, right?
I apologize for swimming against the stream here, but I cannot believe we waited 4 years for this album. I am a longtime fan (still have my ticket stub from the War tour in 1982) and am really disappointed with this mess. As another commenter noted, this is not a "rock" album...my question is: who is the audience for this? Not today's kiddies...soccermoms? Only diehard fans? It won't get any new fans especially without a breakout hit like "Beautiful Day" to push it. Is this the band's swan song? How will they market this mess for a tour? Again...4 years for this?

Pace yourself and let this one GROW
I scratch my head at the folks who claim to be die hard fans that are writing about not being blown away by this album...(It was just released yesterday! You have to give an album days or weeks before coming to a conclusion, no? - glad you don't run a country) The reason it took so long to make is the complexity that they have clearly taken on here. The songs that you are unsure about at first are almost always the ones you often return to (Acrobat, Exit, Zooropa, Kite...), yet hooky tracks as the Vertigo-like Volcano and the Miracle are just some of the best ear candy one can buy. U2 has made a huge leap back onto the scene and I can't flipping wait for the carnival that follows. THANK YOU 2!

Welcome Innocence
Thank you, thank you for your return (more than five years waiting a U2 album is a very long time). Thank you for giving us this wonderful collection of songs. The album exudes quality from every musical note. I love it. I can't stop listening to it. I love the artwork too with its innovative retro style. Don't worry, you are still very relevant. You have been relevant since 1977. I have only one objection, The Flowering Rose Of Glastonbury is a great song with a great riff and it deserves to be included in an album (at least to be a b-side). It can't be forgotten and it can't be heard only as a little musical fragment inside Volcano. Please, consider to record it. It's a rock masterpiece. And I hope that Mercy and North Star (For Your Love) will be "songs from experience" (at least b-sides, please). I know (without any doubt) that they are fan favourite songs. These three songs ara as good as experince songs. Thank you very much once again. Welcome back. Next 13th October I'm going to buy the album and without any doubt I'm going to see you on tour.

Fits Nicely in the U2 Canon
Where to start.. Surprise..Still letting it flesh out and embed in the neurons and memory cells. But I Like it very much so far. It flows nicely and gets strong at the end. Initials standouts are "Iris," and "This Is Where You Can Reach Me" but I still need more time to digest. But it's terrific, pleasant, interesting, relevant, nostalgic, and very fun. A very nice gift indeed. It made my month. thx

Can not wait. Can U2?
Awesome. I have already had my digital copy and can not wait for all formats. Specially the double vinyl one.

Mixed feelings
I listened all the tracks, and i'm in mixed feelings. This is for sure not a comeback to the origins. The comeback might be in the lyrics, but not in the sound. Most of the songs have electronic effects that just not U2. Most of the album is much pop and less ROCK. But, in the other way, the album has some very good songs, that almost take us to U2 roots, like "The Miracle", Every Breaking Wave, Volcano, Cedarwood Road, Raised by Wolves and Song For Someone. None of them are spectacular, but still very good songs. And from U2 i always expect spectacular songs. My hope is i will wait for live performances of the songs. U2 often transform weak studio versions into very good (and sometimes spectacular) songs played live

The Boys Are Back
Better than ever, it's not often that a band can create an album where every song is loved. That happened first with Joshua Tree & Bam, 2014 it happened again with a free album download to boot. Enjoy the ride this album will take you on. "It's a journey a musical journey" - Larry from rattle & hum days. This is not just a journey it's a look back to past influences that make U2, U2. So proud to be a U2 Footsoldier. Peace.

Terrific album!
This album is amazing, worth the wait. I really love the Barbara Ann melodies in California. I found the iTunes delivery kind of hard to find, I wouldn't have found the link without this site(U2.com); searching on the iTunes store for Songs of Innocence or U2 didn't direct me to the right place at all.

great!
Hoping music and words melt again in such a way one can't help loving it from the deep of the heart and soul. No enough words to explain. Thanks a lot once again!

I don't know how you do it...
It's been a while, but it was worth the wait. Very different, very fresh, but still very U2. It vaguely sounds like some of your early stuff, but still fused with new sounds. I don't know how you do it, but your lyrics speak to me every single time...
