The Joshua Tree Tour 2017

5 Jan 2017255

The band will be out on the road again this summer celebrating the 30th anniversary of The Joshua Tree and performing the album in full, every night. In July the tour brings them home to Croke Park in Dublin, 30 years after the original Joshua Tree Tour’s two memorable shows at the Dublin venue in June 1987.

U2: The Joshua Tree Tour 2017 kicks off in Vancouver on 12th May for a run of dates across North America, and includes U2’s first ever U.S. festival headline appearance at the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival.

The tour then moves to Europe with the first stop in London on 8th July, finishing up in Brussels on 1st August and taking in their hometown show in Croke Park on 22nd July.

Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds will provide support across Europe, with Mumford & Sons, The Lumineers and One Republic joining the tour through North America.

“It seems like we have come full circle from when The Joshua Tree songs were originally writtten, with global upheaval, extreme right wing politics and some fundamental human rights at risk,” reflects The Edge. “To celebrate the album - as these songs seem so relevant and prescient of these times too - we decided to do these shows, it feels right for now. We’re looking forward to it.”

“Recently I listened back to The Joshua Tree for the first time in nearly 30 years,” adds Bono. “It’s quite an opera. A lot of emotions which feel strangely current, love, loss, broken dreams, seeking oblivion, polarisation… all the greats... I’ve sung some of these songs a lot… but never all of them. I’m up for it, if our audience is as excited as we are… it’s gonna be a great night. Especially when we play at home. Croke Park.. it’s where the album was born, 30 years ago.”

Tickets for U2: The Joshua Tree Tour 2017 are on sale Monday, January 16th in Ireland, the UK and Europe and on Tuesday, January 17th in the US and Canada. Ticket prices start at €35.00 / £35.00 / $35.00 with general admission floor tickets at  €70.00 / £70.00  / $70.00.

As usual, there is an exclusive priority presale for U2.com subscribers from Wednesday, January 11th (9am) through Friday, January 13th (5pm) local times. Tickets will be general admission on the floor and reserved seating in the stands. There will be a 4 ticket limit for subscriber purchases and a 6 ticket limit commencing with public sales. In North America, all floor tickets will be paperless unless otherwise noted.

Released to universal acclaim on March 9th 1987 and featuring hit singles “With Or Without You”,“I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” and “Where The Streets Have No Name”, The Joshua Tree went to No. 1 in Ireland and around the world selling in excess of 25 million copies and catapulting Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr “… from heroes to superstars” (Rolling Stone).

Time Magazine put U2 on its cover in April 1987, proclaiming them “Rock’s Hottest Ticket” in a defining year for the band that saw their arena dates roll into stadium shows to accommodate escalating demand - setting them on course to become one of the greatest live acts in the world today.

The 12 months that followed saw the band create now-iconic moments: the traffic-stopping Grammy Award-winning music video on the roof of a Los Angeles liquor store, winning a BRIT Award and two Grammys - including Album of the Year - their first of 22 received to date, distinguishing U2 as the most awarded rock band in Grammy history; as well as a triumphant return home with the original Joshua Tree Tour for four unforgettable shows in Belfast, Dublin and Cork in the summer of 1987.

In 1987 Hot Press called The Joshua Tree “their most influential album yet”. As for this tour? Noel Gallagher says, “It will be both a pleasure and an honour to play my part in what still remains the greatest show on earth.”

U2 You are the best
U2. Guys I really want to be there, it's gonna be the best tour ever, specially Noel Gallagher is going to be there, but I think it would be great if you guys invite Dolores O'Riordan to one of the shows, to sing with you guys. U2 FOREVER

A true dream come true
I work in broadcast radio in the US. I was asked once to name one album that I regularly listen to all the way through. I answered, "Joshua Tree". I bought it when it came out in 1987, and I remember the first time I listened to it. It had the same effect as Sgt Pepper, in that you had to listen to it all the way through. It was a masterpiece. 30 years later, and Joshua Tree still sounds so fresh to me, it has never gotten old. For 30 years, it has stayed in my current music stack, never "put away". When I heard that the guys were going to do a tour where they played the entire Joshua Tree album LIVE, there was no doubt that I had to see this show. U2 is that rare band like Queen that actually sounds better LIVE than they do in the studio. Listen to their live Blueray concerts....I can not wait until this Joshua Tree LIVE tour Blueray is released. One final thought.....Even the remastered versions of Joshua Tree suffer from the limitations of the original master tapes. The album is muddy. Imagine if those sessions were done today, how truly amazing it would be to hear every detail with proper EQ, etc. Well...this is exactly what Jeff Lynne thought when he listened back to old ELO recordings. He then set about to re-record these old songs in their original form, but using modern recording equipment. Brilliant. They sound incredible. I wish someone within the U2 organization would bring this up to the guys. Go back into the studio, and do the album again. Don't "restyle" it. Just give us this work of art the way it would have sounded in 1987 if you had not been working with piles of overdubbed reel to reel tape. Thank you to U2 for bringing us so much great music for so long.

U2 Fanatic
Have seen U2 24 times since 1986, never ever miss a opportunity to go see them. Last tour was on my birthday May 19th in San Jose. I waited at the tunnel where the cars drive up and got to meet the entire band one by one. Shook Bono and Larry and Edges hand. Epic day! Got in line at 6:00 am and had front row seats. Yup, I know the gig

Come to Big Island Hawaii
The Joshua tree in the land of Aloha. :) Going home to the Texas show is not in my cards. However, my lifelong love for U2 bled down onto my baby girls. So, they will rock Dallas in my stead. It'll be be better than the real thing.

Fingers crossed!!
Sadly, it's been many years since I've seen U2 live. I guess life happened. I used to see them multiple times on every tour...all the way back to War, when I first discovered them and quickly devoured every album and single I could find (and it was all vinyl in those days). But, this tour announcement makes me feel young and excited again. I'm totally swept up. I just HOPE I can get tickets!!! To be able to hear "Red Hill Mining Town" live has always been a dream and now there's a chance to make it a reality. Thanks, U2!

Gotta Go!
In 1992 U2 was(and still is) My now hubby's fav band! The first time he came to my house to pick me up for a date, I had the Joshua Tree playing on cd, I had to keep restarting it so that song would be playing when he arrived! In Jan 2000 our second son, Joshua, was born. He is not a strong 17 y/o and a cancer survivor. I was so jealous in the spring of 1992 when my husband went to the U2 concert in Vancouver... I didn't go bc we had a final exam for college the next day. I had to study. He still got a better mark than me! God I want to see them again, with my Hubby and hopefully in better seats! Sadly I doubt the cost will be $26.50 or $29/each!!

Thank you U2!
My Irish father introduced me to U2 when I was in grade school. I still hear him telling me in the car when I was 8 or 9 that they would become known as one of the greatest bands as we listened to them on the radio. I was 12, sitting in the living room with the family record player, when The Joshua Tree was released. To this day, I distinctly remember pealing the plastic wrap off of the album with such anticipation. In one day, I was hooked. Each song spoke volumes to me - made me think in broader terms. Running to Stand Still is still my favorite-song-ever. I have seen U2 in concert 7 times - they have been a part of my life even during the darkest hours. When my mom passed away after a long battle with cancer in 2008, I played Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own at her funeral. When my father passed away in 2009, I took the money I inherited from him to travel from the U.S. to where it all started and saw all three shows at Croke Park during the 360 tour. U2, you just made my year! I am really looking forward to this show! Thank you for bringing back the music. It's more than relevant, more than real, right now.....
