U2360° TOUR

Jun 26 2011
East Lansing, MI, US / Spartan Stadium
with Florence and the Machine

Seems like only a few hours ago that the band came off stage at Glastonbury in the UK and they were still in the festival groove tonight opening up with four straight songs from Achtung Baby.

'C'mon East Lansing - go green... go white... go orange... where you going to take the Irish tonight?'

We had our own festival at Michigan State University's Spartan Stadium with an exuberant audience singing along at every note, the joint rocking from 'Real Thing' to Moment of Surrender'.

Let's shrink this place down to a little club, Bono told a 65,000-strong crowd, before adding, ' or a pub like Dooleys'.

'I Will Follow' went down just as well tonight as it did when they played it in that very pub Dooleys, in East Lansing, nearly thirty years ago in December 1981. 'Where is Mr. Dooley?' Bono asked. 'I believe he's still around.'

According to The Detroit News, if it wasn't quite that small pub tonight, it was certainly as cosy as a stadium can become. 'A smaller band would have buckled under the sheer enormity of it. But U2 stepped up to the plate with an ease and confidence that matches its ambitions, and somehow made the stadium setting feel intimate.'

'We're very glad to be here in MSU right now, ' said Bono. 'What makes this country so beautiful is not just landscape, your country is a beautiful idea...'

Special mention for people here and across the state who've worked for the ONE campaign, and for 'another great American idea - the Peace Corps.' This is not a band that made it to university - Edge managed six weeks, Bono two - but they were always learning.
'U2 became our university, Rolling Stone our textbook.
'We're still students, wouldn't you agree ?
'I still haven't found what I'm looking for...'

After 'Still', Bono was in reflective mood again, recalling an album which marks its twentieth birthday this year - and the long journey they took to find it. In Berlin, a wall coming down and one going up in the studio, the risks they took and the ones they'll continue to take. Jann Wenner of Rolling Stone gets special mention, along with all 'the people cheering us on when we were making some of our most experimental music... And we appreciate that.'

The night races past, carried on a wave of noise from a rockin' audience, and soon it's a Moment to Surrender, dedicated again to Clarence Clemons.

'Not just a man, more a force of nature - music just spilling out of him.
But you could hold anyone in your heart or mind right now...'
Were you transported back to Dooleys in East Lansing tonight ? Did the stadium shrink for you ? What was the moment you'll never surrender ? Write up your own review of the show and post your photos below.

U2 360
Definitely my summer highlight for 2011
U2 East Lansing
The best rock concert/show I have ever been to. This four piece knew from 1978 what it takes to inspire everyone around them and make them do good. The only thing that would make this experience more memorable is if we get a Rock Band U2! From their early start in Dublin all the way to the July 2011 end date! I will never forget it! Please help us U2 Fans! Please!
The Claw

Best Show Ever
Best concert I have ever been to. Long life fan and lover of U2. My first time seeing them live, all kinds of awesomeness. Woo! Thank you!
10th concert
Going to Chicago and Pittsburgh. Last minute decision to go to MSU. Loved the 90s stuff and looking forward to the re-release of Achtung Baby. Not a fan of Michigan but a great concert.
East Lansing
This was my 4th U2 concert and the second of this tour. I saw them in Sept 09 in Toronto and then again last night in East Lansing. Same tour but completely different songs and I was very happy to hear so much of Achtung Baby and Zooropa. My first U2 concert was Unforgetable Fire Tour then Joshua Tree tour so it was many years until I was able to see them again. The energy and intensity and level of talent that has gone into every aspect of this show s so amazing. We had field level and felt that no matter where we were on the field we were so close to the band. Amazing job everyone!! This was my nephews first concert and he loved it - it will be hard to beat this one. Thanks guys!!!
Absolutely the best!!!
This was my 8th U2 concert!! And the best ever!! When the screen came down and they led into "Zooropa" and then "City of Blinding Lights" I went crazy not to mention "Where the Streets Have No Name"! Just awesome all around!!!
Waited so many years to see them. Well worth that wait. Thanks U2 for the perfect memory forever. Rock On
Beautiful Night!
Thanks for the music. Thanks for the Spirit behind the music. Hearing Scarlet made me Rejoice, and hearing it with my 16 year old son made my spirit soar. Peace be with you as you close out this tour!
Awesome! Sixth time at U2 show but this one tops them all. Thanks for everything you do! No one does it better!
Best Birthday Present
I traveled from Knoxville, TN to Detroit in 2010 then hear about that show being postponed. When the rescheduled date was announced for 26 June 2011 (my birthday), I was ecstatic! I made the long haul again and knew that this was going to be the best birthday EVER. And it was! Thank you!
set list
I personally liked the old 2009 setlist except for the fly and Real Thing bring back No line on the Horizon Please!
Gene Grabowski
7th Heaven In East Lansing
My 7th time seeing U2. However, this was the best given that it was at Michigan State University - my alma mater. Will remember that night forever
Best ever.
This was the best show ever!!!!! The band was definitely on last night. They were having fun as well. Bono was chattty, smiling a lot and looked like he could have gone on all night. Thank u for coming back to MSU. It means a lot to us. You guys are awesome. I feel privilaged to be your fan. As long as you rock, I will too!!! Love you all!
I still love hearing "Streets" and last night was by far the best reception from the crowd as the response at the end was deafening. Most memorable moment was the tears and my friends eyes and Bono and the boys took the stage for her first ever U2 show.
Best Concert EVERRR!! 3 Encores! Epic, I wish you guys played longer! The time went by way too fast. Totally worth 100 bucks!
Perfect Night !
Awesome Guys! Perfect Weather, Perfect Set! This was my first U2 Show, and has taken place as my #1 all time favorite live show! Thanks for making it memorable.
Thank you
Went to the concert last night and it was incredible. Like all the songs new and old but when you played Vertigo, that was cool. Always wanted to see U2 and it finally happened, I think a lot about this band for the music and the humanitarian work. Doing something real positive for both. Hoping to make it to the Chicago show and see them again.
8th U2 Concert for me
This was the 8th time I get the privilige to enjoy a U2 concert and, like a good wine, you lads get better with age. Thanks for a great night!!
Awesome, and inspiring, show
