Best of... the Noughties?

31 Dec 2009339

It's December 31st 2009, the end of a decade which saw the band release three studio albums.

The 'noughties' for U2 started with All That You Can't Leave Behind in 2000, then came How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb in 2004 and this year came No Line on The Horizon.

Was it a single release that became a global hit or an obscure album track that you think most people still haven't discovered?

Was it a track they've yet to play live or a song that no live show can now be complete without?

Was it something they wrote which doesn't feature on one of the three studio albums? (There's a handful of tracks like this... when you come to think of it.)

Your call. Tell us what was the ONE greatest piece of work the band created during the last decade... and in a couple of sentences tell us why.

Vertigo
So many masterpieces to pick from, but Vertigo was the song that made me a fan. The lyrics and just the fantastic sound of it rocks my world everytime I listen to it. Love and Peace is awesome too :)

Miracle Drug- I saw it performed live with my then pregnant wife. The baby kicked like mad during this song!! The lyrics hit me when my little girl was diagnosed with a form of Autism."I wanna take a trip inside your head and spend the day there-to hear the things you haven't said..." Much like the band she only gets better as time passes. God bless and Peace.

Best song of 00's
City of blinding light and magnificent were the best of the decade in my opinion. 90's Achtung Baby and Zooropa efforts have yet to be beat!

It's a Tie
For me, it's a tie between Electrical Storm and The Ground Beneath Her Feet. Both are truly amazing, inspiring songs.

This is the ONE
For me, this track personifies the music of U2; it connects all the pieces of music that U2 created from "Boy" to "No Line...". It's such an inspiring song for everyone: Beautiful Day.
YAWEH
1. Yaweh 2. Breathe 3. Walk on 4. Sometimes you can't make it on your own 5. Magnificent 6. Fez/Being Born 7. Original of the species 8. Unknown caller 9. City of blinding lights 10. Get on your boots I think my favorite is breathe or walk on, but yaweh deffinitely is the best

Original of the Species
Never quite understood why this did not get a full release. This was U2's outstanding best song of the deecade and still tugs my heartstrings whenever I hear or watch this. The song was so beautiful and always thought this might be held back for a full release when the best of U2 2000-2010 is released. Love it!

Miracle Song
Miracle Drug has to be U2's finest of the Decade, so much emotion in that song

One? Impossible
No way one can distinguish a single moment of the present Fab Four. Here´s a Top Ten (and how difficult to elaborate!): - Moment of Surrender - Sometimes you can´t make It on our own - Stuck in a moment - The ground beneath her feet - All because of you - Vertigo - Elevation - Magnificent - Walk on - Window in the skies Please include this in your setlist for Portugal, next October!

Thank you for every single song....
For me it is impossible to say which one is the best one – that changes every week. Every song is so special and so deep……every song is for one special moment….. Thank you for every single song….for every single concert…. natasa

WALK ON
It's a soaring rallying-cry of a song that's classic U2 yet completely relevant and fresh, even after 10 years. The song made its mark in our collective consciousness with their live performances after 9/11 and throughout the 360 tour.

beautiful day
just beauuuuuutiful

only one?
Picking just one is difficult and so not fair ;), but I’d have to say it’s a tie between Electrical storm and The ground beneath her feet , these two are emotionally exhausting .When I listen to those two it feels as if someone is clutching my heart and throat at the same time and can’t stop crying. Then again it would be criminal not to mention Beautiful day, Walk on, Stuck in a moment, In a little while, Crumbs from your table, Sometimes you can’t make it on your own , Love and peace or else, City, Vertigo and of course Unknown caller (makes me shiver every single time) and just about any song from NLOTH – this album is pure genius. A GREAT BIG THANK YOU, U2 FOR SHARING THAT GENIUS WITH US!!!

Beautiful Day
While it is hard to ever pick a favorite U2 song....or even one from a decade this one stands out. It brought me back to U2 (kind of lost track off them during Pop) and the beauty and wonder of the world is what this song is about for me! I love ever song on each of these CD's but this one is special to me!

"The Ground Beneath Her Feet"!!!
A brooding masterpiece of a song. Can't believe it got relegated to extra track on A.T.Y.C.L.B......actually possibly my fave U2 song, why don't they do this live.?!
crabber
breathe

I WOULD HAVE TO SAY BEAUTIFUL DAY WAS THE SONG OF THE DECADE. AFTER ALL THE THINGS THAT HAPPENED AFTER THAT 911 GOING TO WAR THE CRISIS IN AFRICA A LOT OF BAD SHIT HAPPENED AFTER THAT. HOPEFULLY THIS NEW DECADE WILL BE MORE POSITIVE AND THE BAND WILL CONTINUE TO WRITE MORE BEAUTIFUL SONGS. ALSO I HOPE THE BAND WILL RETURN TO DOING ARENA SHOWS THE SOUND SYSTEM IS MUCH BETTER THAN OUTSIDE SHOWS TELL THE BOYS THAT.THANK U

Great decade and a lot of great songs
Wow, I can't chose only one or two or even three from these three album and from all of their works this decade. But there are few songs which change my life still and still. Beautiful Day - It always makes my day better. Always even if it's a grey day it give some colours to it. Electrical storm - it always touches my heart, my soul, like none other song. I'm so thankful that They created it! William orbit Mix is great too, maybe even more awesome... Kite - I think it's touching and under rated. When I hear it I feel every single word. Beautiful, emotional song. "I know that this is not goodbye..." City of blinding lights - just great, I love the rhythm I love the lyrics, I love it all. And on the concert in Chorzow I was so close when Bono was singing it. Otherwise sentence :"The more You feel the less you know" is always with me. Moment of surrender. So touching and so beautiful, what more I can say... Magnificent - power of U2, power of guitar, power of rhythm, power of voiceand power of lyrics. "I was born to sing for You" - Right Bono, You really was born and You're magnificent in doing this.(And in writing lyrics) And when I'm considering I could write about a few more great song like "Sometimes You can' t make i on your own" or The Hands that built America Great decade. I hope U2 will created more and more beautiful, powerful and touching songs. I am so so thankful.

Window in the Skies
Window in the Skies. It shouted to me, "Wake Up, Everyone" God has a plan here and you best pay attention.

Moment Of Surrender
I enjoy many of them, but there are two very big songs, that are Kite and Moment Of Surrender. When I listen to them live they go straight to my heart.
